The World of Warcraft Positioning System, or WoWPS, is a World of Warcraft add-on that converts the player's current location in the fictional and virtual world of Azeroth into an Earthen equivalent of those coordinates, as specified by the Global Coordinate System (GCS); in other words, in latitude and longitude. As the add-on serves no purpose as far as the game is concerned, the project was an entirely fun and exploratory venture into the world of mapping and parallels.

In truth, converting game coordinates to real-world coordinates turns out to be a somewhat arbitrary exercise. Since the two worlds are nowhere near the same size or shape, I was allowed more or less infinite freedom when choosing which boundaries of what continent would become what boundaries of which continent.

In addition to the live display of
GCS coordinates, another feature of WoWPS is the ablity to view the names of Earthen locales when a player is about use the main mode of transportation on Azeroth. I used Google Maps in conjunction with each location's coordinates to determine what the Earthen parallel of each city was.
